Another craft today! I love love love this adorable fish bowl matching game from the "Sew You Think You're Crafty" challenge! This was an entry by Celestial Creations for the "scraps only" round, and I pinned it immediately, knowing I would make it. Mine isn't quite as bright and colorful as hers, but I used blue tones on the outside and red/purple tones on the inside, making a reversible fish bowl with eight double-sided lil fishies. The fish store neatly inside the bowl when it isn't being played with.
Each fish matches one section on the inside and one section on the outside. So cute. This is a gift for a toddler, and I love to give gifts that are handmade and educational. This one is both. Other perks: it's quiet, no batteries, can't be used as a weapon, and packs away easily.
If you're thinking about making one of these, I would suggest at least one of the following changes:
1) definitely use larger than 1/2" bias tape for the top rim. The instructions say to use 1/2", but I would recommend using 1" to ensure that you can cover all of the layers.
2) Consider just one layer of felt on the inside instead of two.
I think the combination of two layers of felt and the 1/2" bias tape makes for too much bulk and not enough rim coverage. If I make another one (probably will make one for Penny some day), I will probably make both changes.
I ended up covering the rim with felt because my bias tape didn't cover in a couple spots.
I would call this an intermediate project just because it's a little time-consuming, but the difficulty level is not bad at all.
