Holy freakin' cow. That is all I can say about our YoNanas machine. Ok, that's not all I can say about it, but that is the first thing that comes to mind. Josh had a gift card to a catalog that sells sort of obscure things. He couldn't really find anything he wanted, so I convinced him to try out this thing called YoNanas. It says it turns frozen fruit into frozen yogurt. I thought it might be a good ice cream alternative for Penny so that she could have an indulgence while continuing to avoid processed sugar. He thought it would be a bust–basically a blender disguised as something else, but he got it anyway. Um, NO. It is NOT a blender. I was right. He was wrong. It is a freaking magic box.
You start with this. A frozen banana and whatever other frozen fruit you want.
You put the fruit in the top.
You turn it on, and out comes frozen yogurt.
Unscrew the top section and scrape out the rest of the froyo. Everything goes in the dishwasher. Love that. No hand-washing parts.
And there it is.
100% fruit. No sugar. No additives. No preservatives. This is like eating a banana and a handful of berries, but soooo much better! Penny absolutely goes ape shit for this stuff. She sees it and starts signing "please" and yelling "MAAAAAMAAAA!" And I love that she can have dessert without getting her crazy addicted to sugar like the rest of us. I also love that it is quite compact, so it doesn't take up much counter real estate.
The only complaint I can think of is that bananas are never in season here, so we buy them in bulk at Costco, and you have to wait until the bananas are starting to get a little brown before you freeze them. They're sweeter that way, but it's no fun to wait when you really want some yonanas, and sometimes it is hard to keep a stockpile of frozen bananas because it is so easy to justify making this dessert. Hmm, should I have a banana or some yonanas? Yonanas wins every time.
Anyway, as I said, we had a gift card for ours, but it turns out that Amazon sells them (and for a better price than in the catalog consequently). If you use this link: Yonanas 902 Ice Cream Treat Maker I will get a small cut. For the record, that is NOT why I wrote this post. I wrote it because I think everyone needs to know about this amazing magic dessert machine. It's a PSA really. I think Josh told one person in his family about it, and it spread like wildfire and everyone bought one. I so would have appreciated this even more two years ago when I had to give up sugar.
If you have one or get one, let me know what you think!

How fun! If only my kitchen had a bit more space...
ReplyDeleteUmmmmmm.....I may just have to succumb! Right now, my picky-but-not-so picky little one is getting most of his vegetables through smoothies I am sneaking them in or vegetable soup. And even then, I feel like pretty much any food I can sneak in him is via yogurt. Soooo....how great to have fresh, all-natural and organic frozen yogurt???????? Thanks for the review....super excited!!!
