I am totally smitten with my new hair product and am just bursting to share about it! First of all, I am NOT one of those women who spends 20 minutes on my hair every day, and I have never taken an hour to get ready in the morning, ever. If you are one of those women, that is cool. I am not judging you. Whatever, the world needs all kinds. But me, I need something that takes about 12 seconds. Even before kids when I was working, I would still debate over whether it was worth spending 4 minutes blow-drying my hair straight (I timed it–that's how long it would take) or just put it in a bun or headband or whatever and go.
My hair is naturally wavy, but I had never found any products that brought out the natural curl without being either crunchy, frizzy, or greasy. I could get pretty waves if I washed it at night and let it air dry overnight, but if I let it air-dry in the morning without product, it would just get frizzy and limp.
I was really hoping to find something fabulous for my hair, so I asked my stylist in Omaha before we moved if she had any products to recommend. I hate to buy products from hair salons because they're usually full of all kinds of toxic crap, overpriced, and they never seem to work as well at home as they do in the salon, but I trust this girl and thought it was worth asking because I really needed something new. She said it was funny I should ask because they had just gotten in a new product for wavy/curly hair that is super easy to use, and get this, from their natural line of products meaning 100% biodegradable, free of parabens, pthalates, and other junky crap. She told me that she had been debating whether to ask me if she could try it out on my hair. It's called Sojourn Sculpting Taffy.
Well, long story short, it is totally awesome, and I love it. I probably would have made an exception for this product even if it was full of toxic crap. Who can follow the rules 100% of the time? Plus, it goes on hair (dead anyway), but I love love love that I didn't have to. I'm not saying this product is 100% safe and you should drink it and slather it on your babies. It's not listed in the EWG database, so I am not 100% confident that it's totally safe/earth-friendly, but at least it doesn't contain obvious offenders, doesn't reek of chemicals, and I'm sure it's better than many alternatives.
Here's how I get my waves now. Out of the shower with wet hair, I squeeze out the water I can with a towel, run a comb through it, and scrunch it with my fingers a few times. Get a dollop of Sojourn and rub it between my hands so it coats my palms, then scrunch my hair again with the product. Then don't touch it and let it air dry as I go on with my day. That is it. Twelve seconds.
While we're on the subject of hair, whenever I do blow dry my hair straight (like twice a year now), I use this product called Redken Straight 05. They no longer make it–they have one called Straight 06 now, which I haven't tried yet but I'm guessing is similar. I love the way Straight 05 works to make silky straight hair without a straightening iron, but it does not even pretend to be earth-friendly or free of toxic crap. If anyone has fabulous suggestions for more natural products to use with a blow-dryer to straighten hair, please share!

Sounds like a great product. I might try it in the future if we can get Alex past the pulling my hair stage! He loves yanking, so air-drying is not an option at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love what it does for your hair, your hair is beautiful. My hair (I've lost a great deal from meds I take) is slightly wavy but baby fine. I wonder if it would work for me.
